ClearSpaceMusic presents Dan Preston’s brand new single Instant Gratification. An immediate Post Punk classic, so out of time that it makes perfect sense.
Dan Preston shot to underground pre-eminence in November 2011 with the release of his first single; the incomparable suite of 4 rap songs variously entitled Hey, I’m from the CIA.
We now hear Dan growl over the omnipresent theme of Instant Gratification. “It’s f*cking everywhere”, said Dan to his resident songwriter and label magnate Jeff Williams, with a clear expectation that a song should be born from his statement – and here it is.
Lyrics by Williams and music by Williams and Phil Kakulas; the song touches seminal bands Suicide, Joy Division and even the Rolling Stones, while retaining Dan Preston’s unique (Howlin’ Wolf/Beefheart-esque) vocal styling.
The various parts of this hyper lo-fi recording were all delivered in single takes, thus Dan’s formation of his new band the One Take Snakes.
Dan still maintains his anti man about town persona, preferring the greyhound track to the Brunswick hotel scene, however this time he has conceded to at least appear on the front cover as well as on a promotional fridge magnet!
You can gratify Dan and buy his single, (it’s limited to 50 numbered copies with the promo fridge magnet) via
